Toledo Child Custody Lawyer
Toledo law firm safeguards the rights of children and parents
When dealing with divorce and other family law issues, my utmost priority is making sure the best interests of children are protected. At Mock Law, L.P.A. in Toledo, I diligently pursue results that serve a child’s health, safety, educational and social needs. As an experienced child custody lawyer and clinical social worker, I am adept at helping mothers and fathers see past the emotion of the moment so that they can make sound decisions on custody and visitation matters.
Knowledgeable lawyer provides comprehensive advice on custody issues
Custody cases are factually driven, and judges make custody determinations based on what they perceive to be in the best interest of the child. As a knowledgeable family law attorney, I will advise you on matters including:
- Legal custody — In most cases, authority over important decisions in a child’s life is shared by both parents. If this is not appropriate due to health or behavior issues, I will argue for an arrangement that protects the child.
- Physical custody — There are many factors to consider when determining where children should live: their safety, their stability, their routines, their access to educational opportunities, and to some degree, their preference. I will present a detailed case to the court with all of the relevant information.
- Visitation — If you are not granted physical custody, you can rely on me to put a plan together that ensures you have ample and meaningful time with your child.
I have extensive experience with issues of custody and child support and have been trained as a guardian ad litem. My 15 years of trial experience and my background as a social worker are key to my success in this critical area of law.
Enabling shared parenting arrangements whenever possible
Shared parenting consists of a parenting plan agreement where both parents share in the custodial duties and have equal rights to make decisions about the child’s upbringing. Whenever possible, I strive to negotiate a shared parenting agreement both parties can live with, as these agreements tend to be more durable than decisions made by judges after litigation. At trial, parents lose some control over the outcome and increase the likelihood of damaging the co-parenting relationship moving forward. However, if litigation is required, my experience as a prosecutor means I am fully capable of fighting for your rights in court when it is the best option for protecting your children.
Working to preserve bonds between grandparents and children
I believe it is important for grandparents to have an active role in their grandchildren’s lives, and this is especially true when kids have been through the trauma of their parents’ breakup. Ohio law permits grandparents to see their grandchildren after a divorce or separation. Whenever appropriate, I will fight to obtain a visitation order that preserves this relationship.
